Beetham Tower in Manchester, which was completed
in 2006, is one of the tallest buildings in
England at 169 meters high. From the 23rd floor
the building juts out four meters from the floor
below with a cantilever giving the glass-clad
building its distinguishing characteristic. Up
until now the high-rise houses the Hilton
Manchester Hotel. The upper floors house
apartments.
Supported by the interior designers Jestico +
Whiles from London, the hotel chain gave their
284 rooms and suites a modern image which is
characterised by its rectilinearity and modest
demureness. Precious dark timbers, soft light
sources glowing behind glass and marble set the
tone in the bathrooms of the hotel as well. No
wonder the designers chose fittings from the Axor
Starck Collection. The star designer Philippe
Starck’s unique way of commanding the poetry of
reduction and focusing on what is essential fits
perfectly with the concept of modesty and
discrete luxury.
